Anatomical Donor & Stewardship Committee

Anatomical Donor & Stewardship Committee

The purpose of the HAPS Anatomical Donor Stewardship (ADS) Committee is to advise HAPS members on the stewardship of human body donors, donated human specimens, and the anatomy facilities that house them. More specifically, the ADS committee provides direction on how to properly obtain, use, and maintain body donors, as well as how to coordinate and maintain the anatomy lab. Furthermore, ADS committee members develop and review recommending policies and position statements concerning the use of human body donors utilized in human anatomy and physiology education at colleges, universities, and related institutions.

mission & vision

Our Focus on Anatomy & Physiology

Welcome to ADS! We are a group of passionate anatomy educators and lab directors who are fortunate to work with human body donors. Our committee eagerly welcomes others who have experience in this area and or who would like to learn more! It should also be noted that we hope to help breathe new life into the HAPS Animal Use Committee. In order to do this we need HAPS members who are experts in animal dissection, especially in the areas of lab resources and dissection coaching.

ADS has three active subcommittees. Below we have listed each subcommittee and have included a brief explanation of their goals. Please fill out a committee interest form if you have interest in joining an ADS subcommittee.

Lab Resources Subcommittee

Provides HAPS members with lists of tools, lab supplies, vendors, and forms commonly used to help with the direction and maintenance of gross anatomy labs.

Ethics Subcommittee

Provides HAPS members with recommendations for the ethical treatment and maintenance of anatomical donors, bone collections, and other anatomical specimens and provides support for best practices in honoring or memorializing human body donors.

Coaching Subcommittee

Provides HAPS members opportunities to connect and work with experts in various topics related to anatomical donors, including dissection, lab design, preservation, and animal dissections. Consider joining the ADS Support Team. Read more.
