Cooperative Learning Workshop
New this year!
We are offering an exciting pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, May 21 from 9 AM to 3 PM hosted by Murray Jensen. This workshop will be free to attend and will be located in Lawrence Hall 200 at Point Park University. This is about a half mile walk away from the Wyndham Hotel. Attendees will be responsible for arranging for their own transportation.
Workshop Description: The foundation of most active learning strategies is student group work. While all HAPS members are well-qualified in anatomy and physiology, not everyone has experience in effectively utilizing student groups in their classrooms and labs. Forming and managing a cooperative learning environment can be challenging, but with proper background and preparation, it is achievable. This six-hour workshop will begin by exploring the history and theory behind cooperative group work and will then introduce two common teaching methods that employ student groups: cooperative quizzes and guided inquiry lessons. By the end of the workshop, participants will be well-equipped to conduct cooperative quizzes and manage guided inquiry lessons.
Registration will be capped at 40 people.
