Marieb, Hoehn, Haynes, and Abbott Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Purpose:

To encourage instructors and students from minority groups traditionally under-represented in HAPS professions to attend the HAPS Annual Conference and share their stories.

Criteria:

A written summary that is single spaced and 1000 words or fewer.

Instructors should submit a written summary that demonstrates actions they do in their classroom to engage and encourage students to pursue a career in Human Anatomy and Physiology. Describe how your efforts advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in our field. 

Students should submit their story of why they have chosen to pursue a career in a field related to Human Anatomy and Physiology. Describe the journey that brought you to this field. We want to hear who, what, and why you are inspired to become a Human A&P professional.  The written summary should be 1,000 words or fewer.

The written summary might answer some of the following questions:

  • Who are the people that inspire your career ambitions?
  • What community do you want to work with and why?
  • How has or will your contributions in this field advance equity?
  • How do the classes you teach promote diversity, equity, inclusion in the community?
  • How do your efforts advance educational equity in the Human Anatomy and Physiology field?
  • What culturally responsive practices do you use to support student success?
  • How do you explain your success up to this point in your studies / career?
  • What challenges have you encountered and how have you overcome these barriers?
  • How might you be inspiring to others? 

Award:

Cash award of $5000 to help fund attendance at HAPS Annual Conference and waived registration fee for the Conference.
