Interested in Hosting?
Are you looking to get more involved with HAPS? Are you skillful at developing and organizing a meeting of knowledgeable speakers for HAPS members? Hosting a smaller HAPS Regional Conference or a larger HAPS Annual Conference are both great opportunities to get more involved with HAPS and meet lots of HAPSters!
HAPS Regional Meetings are typically one-day events that can are in-person:
- For In-Person Regional Meetings, you can generally expect about forty to eighty participants typically from one of the four HAPS regions. Most of these attendees have arrived from easy driving distances within the host state or neighboring states. Your in-person site must have rooms for workshops and a larger hall for update speakers. Take a look at the In-Person Regional Meeting Hosting FAQ for more information and if you are ready to submit your application, you can use the In-Person Regional Meeting Online Application.
For a HAPS Annual Conference, the expectations are higher. Therefore, it is recommended that you first host a Regional Meeting to learn the ropes of hosting and/or attend lots of Annual Conferences to learn about the Annual Conferences themselves. For an Annual Conference, your institution will need to provide approximately 15 meeting rooms of various sizes for workshops, as well as a place large enough for 500 or so participants to receive and eat breakfast and lunch. You will also need to be located in a city that has relatively easy air access to the rest of the US and Canada. If that sounds like your institution, please take a look at the Annual Conference Online Application for more information.
Whether an In-Person Regional Meeting, a Virtual Regional Meeting, or an Annual Conference – hosting is not you alone out on a limb! You will get plenty of support from HAPS! Want to talk to a human about any of these hosting opportunities? Please contact the Chair of the Conference Committee.
